Bacardi on the lime bags

Bacardi on the Lime bags

"We sat in the garden,
I indolently reading…
We had the best display
of flowers yet seen—
wall flowers in profusion, columbines, phlox, and …huge scarlet poppies.”

The Diary of
Virginia Woolf

Upcoming Classes

September 27th (Monday 6pm)
Harvest Techniques with Anita Dafonte

Anita Dafonte lives & gardens on three acres in  Connecticut & frequently speaks on vegetable gardening & creating simple & delicious meals from the garden.  Today she'll be discussing  harvesting techniques, & giving us creative, healthy, gourmet recipes using vegetables from your own garden or farmer's market.  Lucky us, she's bringing samples to try!  If you were here for her spring class, you know you don't want to miss this one!  $10.00

End of September Mushroom Picking

When the mushrooms are ready, we'll call you for a fun trip up the road to Two Pond farm.   We'll walk the property with our local farmer, Allison Hosford, as she teaches us about mushroom lore and shows us how to pick the best wild mushrooms.  $20.00  Click here for a photo from a past trip.

August Garden Tips:

Fall Lawn Care can start now.  Mid-August to the end of September is the best time to re-seed your lawn, or start a new one.  Fertilizing is best done now too.  Stop in and chat with one of us for more information.

Water water water!

Keep fertilizing!  A monthly application of a slow release fertilizer like Organica's Plant Booster Plus or Chickity Doo-Doo is great to keep annual flowers blooming all summer into fall.  For REALLY great blooms, try a liquid bone meal application.

Keep an eye out for chewing bugs, deer and wilt or rot caused by fungi.  We have the natural solutions for you here.

Spring Bulbs are arriving soon, and the mums are in!

Are you gardening in New Jersey?  We know gardeners (like us), like to check out cool, out-of-the-way garden centers... Come check us out!

Check this out!  Jodie gets interviewed on the Joan Hamburg show!  Thanks so much Joan!!

A Unique Retail Garden Center and Nursery

Our retail garden center has a beautiful selection of plants for you to choose from. You will notice that each plant receives personal attention and we are always on the lookout for the unusual specimen, and will help you find the special plant you want. Our selection of garden accessories is different from the rest, and we hope you'll find the perfect compliment to your landscape--perhaps an arbor, bird bath, or a garden sculpture.

A Hidden New Jersey Gem

If you live in Northern New Jersey, and you are an avid gardener who loves exploring garden centers that truly care about the product they sell, you will have a wonderful experience at Glenwild Garden Center. We love what we do, and so will you.

Alexander J. MacKenn Sr. started his landscape business in 1928, often using a team of oxen to accomplish a job.  Constantly evolving and responding to the needs of the community, Alex and his wife Mabel added the retail shop in 1958.  After getting a degree in Landscape Design & Horticulture, Alex Jr. started designing and running crews in 1962, and he and his father worked together for at least 20 busy years.  Then the third generation came in.  In 1990, Brad, now a Certified Landscape Architect, came on full time, and then Jodie started in 1992.  (With a totally unrelated degree, but a love of plants and spreading the organic gardening word).  The business truly is ‘a labor of love’ for this family.
